In the towns of the East, a group of settlers formed a new nation they called America, but soon they began to look West. In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned a daring expedition to map the land, discover the enchanting wildlife and develop friendly relations with the native people who lived on the frontier. He selected two men for the task: Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. With these two went the hopes and dreams of the American people, but deep within their hearts, their greatest ambition was to stand on that far western edge, look out over the Pacific and breathe in the salty ocean air. They believed it was... their destiny.
