The Wrecking Season Quotes
[Nick has found a strange flat silver disc about the size of a dinner plate and is asking local people to try to identify it. Most people have no idea, but Ed Schliffke sounds as if he knows exactly what it is]
Nick Darke: I've been asking everyone what this is.
Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: Do you know?
Nick Darke: I honestly don't know. I haven't got a clue.
Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: [sounding very knowledgeable] Right. These are quite old - about ten years old - they don't make them any more now. And what it is... there's a special chemical solution that used to be in there. It's not in there now - it's leaked out somewhere. And what it is... when it goes down to a certain depth, it activates. And if you look at this here, the little criss-cross thing, on the end that's broken off, it's got a little pincher. And it activates that, grabs the fish, comes up, puts it on there and cooks it. [chuckling as he reveals that he's been making it all up]
Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: I don't bloody know!
Nick Darke: [laughs uproariously, realizing that he's been very gullible]
Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: I've never seen anything like it in my life.
